Chelsea sacks Di matteo

Chelsea FC, Wednesday, announced that they have parted ways with their Coach, Roberto Di Matteo.
A club statement on the Chelsea website said the move was imperative to move the club forward.
“Chelsea Football Club has parted company this morning with Manager Roberto Di Matteo,” the statement read.
“The team’s recent performances and results have not been good enough and the owner and the Board felt that a change was necessary now to keep the club moving in the right direction as we head into a vitally important part of the season.
“The club faces a difficult task ahead in qualifying for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League as well as maintaining a strong challenge for the top of the Premier League while competing in three other cup competitions. Our aim is to remain as competitive as possible and challenge strongly on all fronts.
“The owner and the Board would like to thank Roberto for all he has done for the club since taking over in March. Roberto helped guide us to an historic Champions League victory and a seventh FA Cup. We will never forget the huge contribution he has made to this club’s history and he will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge.
“The club will be making an announcement shortly regarding a new first team manager,” a full text of the club statement read.
Chelsea lost 3-0 to Juventus Tuesday night, reducing drastically their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stage of this year’s Champions League. They are also having a poor run in the English Premier League.

More troubles for Bi-Courtney as sister company may lose N4.8bn road contract in Ondo

Less than 24 hours after it lost the multi-billion dollars concession agreement for the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a company believed to be linked to Bi-Courtney may lose another multi-billion naira contract; this time in Ondo State.
The Ondo State Government announced on Tuesday that it would terminate the contractual agreement between it and Homan Engineering Limited, believed to be owned by Wale Babalakin, the head of the Bi-Courtney Consortium, within the next two-weeks if the company does not fully mobilise staff and equipment to site.
The Commissioner for Works, Gboye Adegbenro, said this when he led senior officials of his ministry and journalists on an inspection tour of some road projects in the state, including the Akure-Oba-Ile-Airport road being done by the company.
Mr. Adegbenro said Homan Engineering Limited has “performed below expectation.”
The firm had also lost a major road contract it was handling for the state government in Ondo town barely 3 months ago. Mr. Adegbenro noted that the state government decided to sack the firm from the Ondo township road dualisation project as it is glaring that it had no capacity to deliver.

Prostitutes Hold Married Christian Man To Ransom After Refusing To Pay For Services Rendered

The man, who claims to be a devout Christian, was celebrating his birthday and hooked up with his nephew before hiring prostitutes for the night at a local lodge at around 10.30om to help him celebrate.
It appears he wanted to spice up his sex life and add variety, especially on his birthday. He allegedly drove to a business centre where they danced the night to beer before taking turns and having sex in the man's white Chevrolet registration number ACR 0988.

Two self-confessed hookers identified as Pamela and Bridget were fuming demanding their dues of US$60 in Eastlea when our news crew arrived.

They came to the lodge at around 10.30pm and saw me standing along the road in a revealing dress. He said they wanted girls and I called my friend and they drove us to Domboshava.
I slept with him in the car and I refused to have a second round with him because he was not saying anything about money. He was driving with one hand, and fondling my body with the other hand, saying, my beautiful sweet mummy, said Bridget.

Suarez commits future to Liverpool amids Man city rumour

The Premier League champions had been linked with a £40 million January move for the Uruguayan striker, but he has now reaffirmed his desire to stay at Anfield.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has reiterated his desire to stay at the club, amid widely rumoured interest from Manchester City.
The Uruguayan has been in fine form so far this campaign, notching 11 goals in 16 appearances, despite Brendan Rodgers' men suffering a mixed start to the season.

Suarez's recent performances had led to suggestions that Roberto Mancini was set to test the Reds' resolve with £40-million January bid, but the forward has now underlined his commitment to the Anfield side.
He told the club's official website: "I have a very long contract here and it's a dream come true to be playing at a club like Liverpool because, as I've said, as a boy I dreamt of playing for a team like this.

"Now I'm here, it's all about enjoying myself and trying to be here for as many years as I can, because I'm at a club where I'm very happy, my family is happy, I've got fantastic teammates and a manager from whom I'm learning so much.

"As a player, it's vital to have the backing of your manager and so I think that the confidence Brendan is showing in myself and the team as a whole is very important and it's down to us to repay that trust out there on the pitch.

"Let's hope we can keep improving. I'm working well and I'm very happy at a club where I've always wanted to be. At a club to whom I'm very grateful for the trust everyone is showing in me - a club with amazing supporters and teammates who are all great people.

Mata: It is great to be back in Spain squad

The Chelsea attacker was very pleased with his recall to the national team, and feels they put in an entertaining performance versus Panama

Juan Mata has voiced his satisfaction with his return to the Spain squad after featuring 45 minutes in the reigning world champions' 5-1 friendly win over Panama on Wednesday evening.

The Chelsea star was snubbed for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and France in October, but earned himself a place in national team coach Vicente del Bosque's squad again with his fine performances at club level.

"I was very upset at being left out last time, but it's great to be back with the lads again," Mata was quoted as saying by AS.

The attacking midfielder then went on to express his delight with la Roja's performance against Panama as they cruised to a comfortable win.

Venezuela 1 - 3 Nigeria: Igiebor scores spectacular goal to lead Eagles charge Coach Stephen Keshi will be happy with the performance of some of the players that featured against Venezuela

The Super Eagles started the match against Venezuela in a 4-3-3 formation with Obafemi Martins, Brown Ideye and Bright Dike – making his debut for the national team.

The first minutes on the dry Marlins Park pitch saw the players trying to adjust to the bounce of the ball with the Venezuelans settling the quicker. Ejike in the second minute tried to jiggle his way past defenders in the box but conceded a free kick. Juan Arango almost found Salomon Rondon in the fifth minute which saw the Super Eagles defence exposed with just one pass.

The Eagles could have taken the lead in the 28th minute when Igiebor burst forward from midfield but his pas to Martins was a tad heavy with the Levante striker in good shooting position.

Henry Uche had to make way in the 33rd minute after he had been on the end of some heavy challenges and was replaced by Raheem Lawal. Martins had a shot on the turn in the 41st minute but it went wide.

The first half ended with the Eagles having the better of possession but the Venezuelans had the more goal scoring chances.

In the second half, the Eagles flew out of the blocks and scored the opening goal in the 47 minute through Ideye. A move started on the right by Igiebor saw Kwambe deliver a low cross into the box which was tapped in by the Dynamo Moscow striker for his first goal for the national team.

Igiebor followed that with a spectacular 40-yard shot in the 53rdminute that beat Hernandez in goal for Venezuela all ends up.

The South Americans reacted after these setbacks but were let back into the game when an otherwise steady Oboabona gave possession to Arango, who in turn fed Frank Veltra, who placed a low shot past Ejide.

Arango now led the charge for the equaliser and they had series of corner kicks but the Nigerian defence held firm. Shola Ameobi replaced Martins in the 61 minute – the Newcastle man making his international debut for Nigeria.

They could have gotten their equaliser in the 84thminute after another careless giveaway. Lawal was caught in possession near the box but Ejide made a good save with his leg to concede a corner kick.

There were unsavoury scenes in the closing stage of the match when Igiebor took his time getting substituted for which he was shown a yellow card. Onazi settled the affair in added time as he swept in a low shot after Ameobi has passed to him in the box to make it 3-1 to the Nigerian team.

Coach Stephen Keshi will have been very pleased with the performances of some of the players but some did not cover themselves in any glory.

Israel ready to widen Gaza operations, says Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the country's military is prepared to extend its operation against Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
His comments came after the head of the military wing of Hamas, Ahmed Said Khalil al-Jabari, was killed during Israeli air strikes on the territory.
These followed a wave of rocket attacks against Israel from Gaza.
Three Palestinians were reported killed by a fresh Israeli strike on Thursday.
More rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel overnight, but Jon Donnison in Gaza City says so far the violence does not appear on the same scale as the last Gaza War almost four years ago when hundreds of Palestinians were killed on the first day of Israel's operation.
"We've sent a clear message to Hamas and to other terrorist organisations," Mr Netanyahu said in a televised address on Wednesday evening.
"And if there is a need, the Israeli Defence Forces are prepared to widen the operation. We will continue to do everything to defend our citizens."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic inspired Sweden to a 4-2 victory over Roy Hodgson's England after hitting all four goals, including a stunning fourth, as the hosts came from behind to secure victory in Stockholm.

Roy Hodgson handed debuts to three men with Steven Caulker, Leon Osman and Raheem Sterling all featuring, whilst captain Steven Gerrard became only the sixth man to win 100 England caps.

After a low-key start by both sides it was perhaps fitting that Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in Sweden's brand new Friends Arena after 20 minutes.

The goal came from a quick counterattack after Sterling was caught in possession just inside the Sweden half. Rangie then drove forwards, found Olsson on the left who crossed for Ibrahimovic inside the area. The striker’s initial shot was blocked by Caulker, but Ibrahimovic was first to react, poking past Joe Hart and into the roof of the net for the first goal in the new stadium.

Yet after a lacklustre start the visitors slowly came to life and equalised 10 minutes before the break. Sterling began the move with a great ball out wide to Ashley Young. The Manchester United winger’s cross into the box was inviting and duly stabbed home first time by Danny Welbeck - the striker’s fifth shot on target for his country and, impressively, his fifth goal.

Yet just three minutes later the visitors were ahead. Again Sterling was involved, drawing a foul on the edge of the area.  Up stepped captain Gerrard with another fine delivery, swung into the far post where Caulker was on hand to side foot home from close range under pressure from two defenders for a debut goal and a half-time lead.

England continued where they had left off after the break with Young inches away from connecting with a fine Baines cross before both Osman and Gerrard went close with well-struck shots.

And there were even more reason for Three Lions fans to cheer on the hour mark when Jack Wilshere made his long-awaited return to international football.

He was swiftly followed by Carl Jenkinson Tom Huddlestone and Ryan Shawcross yet the substitutions may just have disrupted England with Ibrahimovic equalising within minutes of the trio’s arrival.

A simple pass from Svensson found the striker unmarked in the box and he struck a sweet volley past Hart to level the scores with his 37th international goal.

Yet the striker was not finished there. With just five minutes remaining, Sweden were awarded a free kick some 25 yards out. There was never any question over who was going to take the kick, Ibrahimovic duly stepped up and fired it low, and past Hart into the corner of the goal for his hat-trick.

The game was won, and the headlines written, but there was still time for Ibrahimovic to provide the outstanding moment of the match. With 90 minutes on the clock, a weak clearing header by Hart, came to the striker who grabbed his fourth of the night in unforgettable style with an overhead kick from fully 30 yards

Messi, Neymar tops FIFA Pukas award nominees

Fifa has announced the 10 nominees for the 2012 Puskas Award, a list of the top 10 "most beautiful" goals of the year.

The list was compiled by a panel of experts and members of Fifa's Football Committee, though the winner will be determined by a public vote.

There are no English nominees and just one representative from the Premier League: Newcastle's Hatem Ben Arfa for his goal against Blackburn in the FA Cup.

Ben Arfa joins Ghana international Agyemang Badu, who scored against Guinea and Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao found the net versus America de Cali.

Eric Hassli of Vancouver Whitecaps struck a blow to Toronto, Nacional Potosi's Gaston Mealla scored against The Strongest while Fenerbahce duo Moussa Sow and Miroslav Stoch found the target versus Galatasaray and Genclerbirligi respectively.

Last year's winner, Neymar, is also on the list as he netted against Internacional, while Lionel Messi is seeking the one individual accolade that has so far evaded him with his goal versus Brazil.

Women's football is represented by Olivia Jimenez's long-range strike for Mexico against Switzerland at the Women's Under-20 World Cup.

The first round of voting ends on November 29 with the award handed over on January 7 at the Ballon d'Or Gala.

Tinubu, other ACN Chieftains sympathises with the saraki's

The remains of the late godfather of Kwara politics, Olusola Saraki, left his Ikoyi residence at 2.20 p.m. and began his last journey to his home state.
Mr. Saraki, 79, who died after battling cancer for many years.
Hours after his death was made public, sympathizers began to pour into the late senator’s Cameron Road residence, Ikoyi.
A leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Bola Tinubu, was among the few politicians who came to pay their last respects in Lagos.
Mr. Tinubu described the deceased as a national hero who contributed immensely to the political emancipation of Nigeria.
“We’ve lost many of his political strategies, so much of his political maturity.
“The ability to adapt and to develop political platforms to endure is part of his legacy, and his understanding of the Nigerian political terrain,” Mr. Tinubu said.
“As a political leader and as a welfarist, there’s no doubt that the philanthropic character of Dr. Olusola Saraki will be immensely missed,” Mr. Tinubu added.”There’s no way that heroes will remain forever. They die, all we can do is pray for repose of their souls,”
Among the early callers at Mr. Saraki’s home included Niyi Adebayo, former Ekiti State Governor and another leader of the ACN; and Mohammed Belgore, Kwara ACN gubernatorial candidate in last year’s election.
Mr. Adebayo described the deceased as a great politician who spawned a new breed of politicians” to take over his legacy.”
Mr. Belgore said that the history of Kwara will not be complete without Mr. Saraki’s “towering influence.”
The ACN’s Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, described the late politician as a “true colossus.”
“A man who politically defined his era, a political strategist who was unique in his brand of politics,” Mr. Mohammed said.
By the time Mr. Saraki’s remains left his Lagos home in the afternoon, 38 people had signed the condolence register at the entrance to the house.
One of them, a former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, wrote “Erin wo (The elephant has fallen). The end of an era
The deceased controlled Kwara politics for decades, making him one of Nigeria’s most effective political godfathers
A son of the deceased former strongman of Kwara politics, Olusola Saraki, has given indication of what caused his father’s death.
Olaolu Saraki, the last child of the deceased, told reporters at the late politician’s residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, that his father battled  cancer for years.
“He has been battling with cancer for about 5 years. He was fine this morning. He said his prayers but he died around 6a.m.,” Olaolu said.
The late Mr. Saraki was a philanthropist who was very popular among the poor people of Ilorin, the state capital, where he was referred to as “Baba Oloye.”
Very few politicians since the return on democracy controlled their state politics the way Mr. Saraki had firm grip on that of his native Kwara.
An effective  political kingmaker
The deceased was the leader of the Nigerian Senate between 1979 and 1983. He was elected under the National Party of Nigeria.
Since then, he and his family had dominated the politics of Kwara State installing various public officials from councillors  to governors; and ensuring the exit of those who refused to do his bidding.
In 1999, upon the return of democracy after several years of military dictatorship, Mr. Saraki ensured that his party, the All Peoples Party, won the state’s gubernatorial election and installed his protégée, Mohammed Lawal, as governor.
But it was not long before the governor and his godfather fell out. Mr Saraki acted swiftly, ensuring the late Mr. Lawal was not reelected. He then dumped the APP for the Peoples Democratic Party.
Despite Mr. Lawal’s acumen and military background, the deceased proved his control over Kwara politics was no fluke when he ensured that his erstwhile unknown son, Bukola Saraki, emerged the candidate of the PDP and defeated the incumbent in a fiercely contested election.
The younger Saraki would go on to lead the state for the next eight years, after winning a re-election in 2003, with the support of his father.
Father, Son battle for control
A crisis, however, began between father and son as the deceased wanted his son to be succeeded as governor by another child: his daughter, Gbemisola Saraki, who was then Senator.
The governor, who had spent his maximum two terms in office, would have none of it.
The family disagreement, which surprised many Nigerians, led to the deceased and his daughter leaving the PDP for another party to actualize Gbemisola’s ambition.
By the time the election came in 2011, the deceased was too old and sick to effectively challenge his son’s growing political influence on the state. When he returned from abroad shortly before the election, his efforts to rally support for his daughter with campaigns round the state were unsuccessful. The PDP candidate and protégée of Bukola won the governorship election.
The  godfather was floored by his own son.
That was the first time a candidate supported by the elder Saraki would lose elections in Kwara in almost two decades.
Senator eulogises father
Bukola Saraki, who contested and emerged a Senator after two terms as governor has confirmed his father’s death.
Mr. Saraki said the family will “take solace in knowing that our father lived an exemplary life of service, and selfless devotion to development of his people and nation.”
“Baba will be sorely missed,” he added.
The deceased is expected to be buried on Wednesday at 4.00 p.m. according to Islamic rites.
The Kwara State Government has also declared three days of mourning for the deceased.

Ebube Essien-Garricks, a 27-year-old student of College of Health Science and Technology, Rivers State, has emerged the winner of a Cessna 182T aircraft in the MTN Ultimate Wonder promo.

She won after a draw held at the head office of MTN in Lagos on Tuesday.

Chief Marketing Officer, MTN, Mr. Larry Annetts, said the draw leading to the winner was interesting, credible and transparent.

He said, “When we came out with the promo, many doubted us but today we have an Ultimate winner who will go home with the promised Cessna 182T aeroplane. The take-home for us here is that MTN is committed towards enriching the lives of its consumers.

“When we say we will do something, you can be sure that we don’t renege on our promises. The can-do- spirit is forever guiding our paths in offering utmost satisfaction to our consumers and we are glad that today a Nigerian has been enriched and empowered with an aeroplane.”

Ebube who was notified of her winning, via a phone call immediately opted for the cash value of the plane, which is N64m.

She said,  “I am short of words, there is no word to describe what I feel right now, it is almost as if it is a dream but I know that nothing can be more real than what I am feeling right now. This must be the best Christmas gift ever. It is truly wonderful.”

Speaking on the process leading to the selection of winners for the promo, the Assistant Director, Lagos zone of the NLRC, Mr. Obi Iriegbu, said had been transparent and credible.

“We started this journey together, ensuring that the consumers’ interests are protected and that the brand fulfils its promises. So far so good, it has been a credible and transparent process leading to the Ultimate winner of the aeroplane promised, from the beginning of the promo,” he stated.

The perception of Nigeria’s government seems to have crashed further, with most Nigerians rating their country’s leadership as the second most corrupt in the world, a Gallup poll just made public has revealed.

Gallup, in its first-ever report on “Global States of Mind: New Metrics for World Leaders.”, said 94 percent of Nigerians believe there is widespread corruption in government.

The poll shows that in the world, only Kenyans believe their government is more corrupt. About 96 percent of Kenyans said there is widespread corruption in their government while only five percent of Singaporeans said their government is corrupt.

Singaporeans believe their country is the least corrupt in the world. Gallup said last year’s revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt where GDP was rising, shows that world leaders need more than just GDP and other traditional economic metrics to run their countries. “Economic data are becoming less and less valuable because they tend to be outdated by the time they are made available. More significantly, GDP is less valuable because leaders now need to know much more than what people are spending — they need to know what they are thinking; GDP isn’t enough if you are watching for instability,” said Jim Clifton, Gallup Chairman and CEO.

“All institutes worldwide knew GDP was rising in Tunisia and Egypt. They knew what 11 million Tunisians and 80 million Egyptians were buying and selling — but they didn’t know what they were thinking,” Clifton added.

Clifton said GDP isn’t enough if leaders are trying to figure out levels of hunger, hopelessness, or suffering, adding that the United Nations did not see those revolutions coming, neither did the World Economic Forum (WEF), nor the World Bank.

“The U.S. spends tens of billions on intelligence— and it missed those revolutions too,” Clifton said. Gallup’s World Poll spans more than 150 countries, territories, and areas, annually capturing what more than 98% of the world’s adult population is thinking on topics from basic needs to job creation. Gallup’s World Poll data set now includes more than 1 million interviews conducted since the research initiative started in 2005. Respondents were asked questions on law and order, food and shelter, institutions and infrastructure, good jobs, wellbeing, brain drain and quality GDP growth.
